The Play It Again I project aimed to create a playable history of Australasian video games for industry, community and research purposes, by building on existing research into the history of Beam Software and their games from the 1980s.
This collection comprises physical games donated to ACMI for the project, audio captures and game emulation files – some created at ACMI as part of the project research and some harvested from external web repositories.
The multi-faceted project brought multidisciplinary expertise to bear on the areas of collections, preservation, accessibility, fan knowledge, and the telling of histories about Australia’s digital game history.
The project was undertaken by ACMI in partnership with Flinders University, University of Melbourne, The New Zealand Film Archive, Berlin Computerspiele Museum, and the Research Trust of Victoria University of Wellington. It was funded via the Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Projects scheme, which funds collaborative projects between University researchers and Partner Organisations.
The project was completed in 2015.
