1944 is single player top down shoot ‘em up game. The player is a WWII-era airplane that can move around and fire at other airplanes or ships. The joystick moves the player around, and the fire button shoots bullets. Getting hit by another ship or plane’s bullets, or touching an enemy ship or plane causes the player to lose a life. The player starts with two extra lives and the game restarts once these run out.
Original game created for Commodore 64 by Matthew Hall and released into the public domain circa 1985. More info on Matt Hall’s games can be found at: http://www.ourdigitalheritage.org/archive/playitagain/bedroom-coders-matthew-hall-15-commodore-64-games-rescued-from-decaying-cassettes/
