When a mentally challenged young woman returns home from an institution, she craves independence not willingly granted by her loving but overprotective mother. After meeting a mentally handicapped man, Carla experiences romance and the desire for a life unencumbered by others’ limited expectations of her. Cast includes Juliette Lewis, Diane Keaton, Tom Skerritt, Giovanni Ribisi, Poppy Montgomery, Juliet Mills.
