Pilates is an exercise program designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body. Poses are systematic and utilise specific breathing techniques that make them extremely effective in encouraging muscle strength and tone. Pilates has been used extensively by dancers and sports professional but is also suitable for persons interested in improving overall fitness. Benefits from practising Pilates include: increased lung capacity, flexibility, improved posture and balance, back strength and muscular definition particularly in the abdominal region. Presented by practitioner Allan Menezes, this disc is designed for those who exercise once or twice a week and wish to improve their overall fitness. Chapters include: introduction and pre-start tips; breathing techniques; starting stretches; hamstring, quad and thigh; rolls/leg circle 100s; single and double leg stretch; criss cross and spine stretch; saw/neck roll single leg kick; swimming rest position; rotation twist jack knife; side leg kick, side leg lift; teaser/teaser twist; side bend seal/hinge, arm weights; tips for pilates. Some poses require the use of props, many of which should be found around the home. Menezes instructs two individuals whilst discussing the poses at length. The disc also contains frequent English subtitles, which pertain to key components of the pose. To reduce the risk of injury, consult your doctor before beginning this or any exercise program.
