This four part television series is adapted from the book of the same name, retracing the life and mixed fortunes of Diana, Princess of Wales. The four part series features extensive interviews including: Diana’s staff, the press, royal biographers, photographers, friends, lovers, former colleagues as well as James Hewitt, Trevor Rhys-Jones and numerous people that Diana had met on tour. The documentary uses fictional “recreations” of certain scenes, voice-over narration and television footage to trace Diana’s life. Episode one: Diana’s life pre-royal marriage, her parents, birth, childhood, school years, employment in child care, engagement and marriage to Prince Charles, the rise of her popularity with the press. Episode 2: Ascendency of Diana’s fame and the press’s obsession with her, eclipsing Charles, cracks in the Royal marriage, the affair between Camilla and Charles, Diana’s popularity with the people and common touch. Episode 3: Diana’s affair with James Hewitt, the rival biographies, the Charles and Diana TV interviews, the divorce, Camilla gate, Diana gate, the rival camps and press obsession with the unravelling of the monarchy. Episode 4: Diana’s post-divorce suitors, fame in America, charity work with victims of landmines and AIDS, the press’s hounding of her, her romance with Dodi Al Fayed, death in Paris and subsequent public mourning of her life.
