Beginning with the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. This film works its way methodically through the events that culminated in World War I. Uses maps, photographs and documentary film footage of these events and of such famous contemporary figures as Kaiser Wilhelm, Czar Nicholas II, Bismarck, Churchill and Poincare. Concludes with a summary of why each nation went to war.
