Shows the work of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in Patzcuaro, Mexico, where teachers from twenty Latin-American countries train to combat illiteracy. The students do their field work in twenty nearby communities, co-operating with various UN agencies. UNESCO emphasises that through their own efforts they can create a better life for their community.
