Paolo Totaro hosts a discussion between Thomas Keneally (Chairman of the Australian Republican Movement), David McNichol (The Bulletin) and D.D. McNichol (The Australian) on the issue of a Repblican Australia by the year 2001. They discuss the potential benefits to Australia becoming a republic, when this is likely to cccur, the politicalisation and composition of the Republican movement, possible candidates for Head of State and selection criteria, the Constitutional Commission 1988 and the liklihood of a hidden agenda within the Republican movement to undermine the current political system.
