The concept of vegetative propagation is explained and how new plant cells are created in the growing points or meristems of plants. Discusses the importing of flower cuttings into Australia and the growing of potatoes. Using two case studies, the viewer is shown tissue culture techniques used to combat the plant disease Phytophthora, or “Jarrah dieback” and how genetic engineering is used to create a Blue Rose.
