This very entertaining drama of adventure and romance is set in Havana in late 1959 as the corrupt regime of Cuba’s General Batista starts to crumble as Fidel Castro’s forces begin their takeover of the country. Sean Connery gives a powerful and compelling performance as a British soldier-of-fortune who hires himself out to venal Cuban general Martin Balsam to help put down the insurrection. He has no political views, but as he grows aware of the brutality and corruption of the regime and the gulf between Cuba’s rich and poor, his sympathies begin to shift…
