The socialisation process is important if children are to be raised into healthy adults. Skills and traits children must learn are co-operation, sharing, empathy, self-control, the delay of gratification and empathy which can be enhanced through play. Styles of parenting are discussed together with the technique of modeling to develop positive behaviour and the effect of self-fulfilling prophecies.
