Episode of Series “Videos on Australian Writers: archival writers series II”.
Filmed in New York, December 1985. Sumner Locke Elliott recalls the characters and events of his youth which inspired his autobiographical novels. He began his career as an actor at the Independent Theatre in Sydney and went on to write and peform for radio. In 1948 Elliott left Australia and settled permanently in New York where he wrote television plays and later novels. He discusses different attitudes in Australia and America and the changes he has seen take place in American society.
