James Blades demonstrates the orchestral instruments of percussion - other than timpani - which are capable of melody as opposed to pure rhythm. the xylophone, vibraphone, marimba, glockenspiel, tubular bells and tuned gongs emerge in detail as vital parts of the modern orchestra and dance band.
