While there is considerable overlap between four and five year olds and much individual variation, in general, fours are seen in a world of activities and interests which are a perfecting and elaboration of skills and interests of two to three year olds. Fives are beginning to enter the world of older children, a more formalised enlarging world, words and numbers begin to take on some meaning.
