Details a study of how atmospheric carbon dioxide levels can alter human metabolism; redesigned cylinders which reduce the violent ignition noise from diesel engines; experimental batteries which replace lead and nickel with sulphur and sodium as their more benign principal components; and a pioneering facility for the safe storage and recuperation of toxic wastes.
