To celebrate the birthday of a famous Russian composer, Shostakovich, the New York Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein plays part of the former’s Symphony No 7 (the Leningrad Symphony). This is followed by all of Symphony No 9. Bernstein also gives a sound illustrated lesson in musical theory.
