Cameras can be used to record history, but they can also become part of it as well. The Bell and Howell Model is the same type of camera used by Abraham Zapruder, who was dubbed the first “citizen journalist” after he inadvertently captured the assassination of US President John F Kennedy on camera in 1963. The footage was sold to LIFE magazine, who printed it frame-by-frame, and became a key part of the FBI investigation. The increasing popularity of home movies led to the development of more affordable technology that was common in households just like the Bell and Howell Model.
