New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern announced her resignation today. Asked how she would like New Zealanders to remember her leadership, Ardern said “as someone who always tried to be kind.” Ardern became a globally recognised figure for her progressive attitudes and empathic style but her government is facing low polling figures at home. Actor Sam Neill expressed the view of many, tweeting, “Her treatment, the pile on, in the last few months has been disgraceful and embarrassing. All the bullies, the misogynists, the aggrieved. She deserved so much better.”
