We perceive colour through light reflected from the object we are observing. The wavelength of the light determines the hue we see. Batchelor’s illuminated sculpture reminds us of this connection between light and colour. This work is inspired by the bright windows and signs on Brick Lane, a bustling London street renowned for its South Asian restaurants. Here, light is not connected to spirituality or nature, but is rooted in everyday experiences.
