Touring Car Champions is based on the Australian Touring Car Championship and the Bathurst 1000. The game features only one track, set in Bathurst, New South Wales. Interestingly, this is depicted through full motion video of the actual track, instead of being recreated or rendered in within the game itself. The video slows down or speeds up based on the player’s speed and the opponent’s cars are 3D models superimposed onto this video.
The game features three modes: The first is Practice, which has no opponents. Quick Race has the player choosing the difficulty of the opponents and racing in a pre-set car. Lastly, The Round is a season-spanning tournament where the player has to work their way up from the amateur division to eventual Touring Car Champion. Along the way, the player can decide what racers, pit crew and car parts to use in each race.
