Nightshade for NES

Australia, 1991

Videogame

After Metro City’s local superhero Vortex is killed, the power vacuum leads to a villain named Sutekh taking control of the city’s gangs and enveloping the city in crime. Only one person can stop them: A vigilante named Nightshade. The game is a point-and-click adventure, meaning the player can examine and interact with the environment, talk to the citizens of Metro City and fight Sutekh’s minions. The game boasts a ‘Personality Gauge’ which changes based on the player’s actions. Increased popularity has gameplay implications such as additional information from grateful citizens. Despite the dark setting, the game itself is light in tone and is filled with jokes and pop culture references.
