Carriers at War 1941-1945: Fleet Carrier Operations in the Pacific is a war simulation game. In the game, the player takes on the role of the task force commander in the Pacific Theater during World War II. The player can play as both the U.S. and the Japanese Empire in scenarios such as Pearl Harbor, Coral Sea, Midway, Eastern Solomons, Santa Cruz and Philippine Sea. The game is played on a 72x84 hexagonal grid on which different units and squadrons, such as naval vessels and land based aircraft, are positioned. The player chooses actions for these units, the consequences for which are simulated by the computer. The game is quasi real-time, meaning that the game can be paused at any given moment at which time the player can give orders to the units. All interaction with the game is through a menu interface. Orders that can be given to units include strike, escort, transport, support, refuel and more complex maneuvers such as strike routines.
