‘Farm Machinery Maintenance’ is an instructional film made for the Commonwealth Department of Primary Industry, designed for an audience of farmers and agricultural workers. The film’s narrator outlines the importance of maintaining farm machinery and equipment to ensure their function and longevity. The film offers an interesting insight into farming methods of the 1950s, with footage of rural farms, machines and tools. As with many educational films of the era, the film displays a (now outdated) gender division of stereotypical roles for men and for women, with men operating the heavy machinery while women serve tea and pick fruit.
