The Charles Hayes Home Movie Collection is a collection of home movies originally made on 8mm and 9.5mm film between the 1940s and 1970s by Charles Edward Hayes (1914–1993). The resulting footage shows us the life of a family living in Heathmont in Melbourne’s south east with their many pets and farm animals, their family holidays and gatherings, their suburb and their cars as well as scenes from Melbourne at the time.

This film shows Sydney street, harbour and beach scenes and a family holiday to Tasmania and New Zealand. There are scenes of Bondi Beach, Taronga Zoo and wild animals in captivity showing a monkey riding a bicycle and performing tricks with a trainer. There are scenes on board and farewelling a passenger liner and passenger steam ferries in Sydney Harbour.

There are street scenes around Hobart, including Wrest Point Hotel, and a road trip to Mount Wellington, showing views along the way. The film shows New Zealand port towns and ports as well as a tourist boat trip on the fjords and scenery at Milford Sound. The family visits Rotorua and a recreation of a Maori Village depicting traditional Maori dance and dress performed for tourists. There are also scenes on a cruise ship of recreational activities.
