[Maurie Fields and Val Jellay Home Movies: Reel 17]

Australia, c. 1970s

Film

This film is a vignette of suburban family life and recreation.

Some sections of this film are underexposed and a hair in the gate appears throughout.

The film opens with scenes of a rugby Union football match which could possibly be an inter-school sports match.

On a suburban street we see a group of teenage boys riding bicycles past parked cars which include a Buick, a Toyota Corolla and a Datsun 180B hitched up to a trailer.

The cyclists accompany the Datsun as it is driven along a Melbourne street past traffic lights, a Clearway sign and a Mobil petrol station.

Inside a weatherboard house, a white cat resides. The human incumbents mug for the camera. Marty (Maurie and Val’s son) pulls faces and tumbles about in slapstick prattfalls. He performs a Fireman carry on a damsel in distress. Playfully, he perches Val Jellay on his lap.

Originally made on 8mm film.
