The Raymond Penington Home Movie Collection is a collection of 16mm colour and black-and-white films made between 1938 and 1965. Dr. Raymond Penington (born 1903) was a medical doctor from Melbourne, Victoria. He and his wife Edith lived in Papua New Guinea in the late 1920s before returning to Melbourne in 1931 and settling in Canterbury. They had three children, Margaret, Vivienne and Jocelyn. His home movies focus on family life in Melbourne and holidays in regional Victoria.
This film is set at the Grampians, Victoria. It begins at Halls Gap Caravan park and then continues with highlights of the Grampians including Coronation Chair, Ladies Hat, The Jaws of Death and The Pinnacle.
Each scene has been meticulously titled to indicate the whereabouts within the Grampians.
There is a scene of the original shopping strip and Taylor’s Store and Café and a few old cars of the era and earlier can be seen.
Towards the end of the film is a number of beautiful images of fauna and flora of the area including the Golden Wattle and Banksia.
At one point you can see the Penington girls practising dissection of a rabbit and a scene of them riding horses.
The film ends with the title “And so Home”.
