A still image from Horror Movie – Skyhooks

The colourful and quirky music video for Skyhooks’ song Horror Movie (1974) helped mark Australian television’s transition from black and white to colour as it was first played on a special, midnight episode of Countdown (1974–87). Despite being a political commentary on the state of current affairs at the time, the song became an unintentional Halloween classic after it was included on a compilation album from actress Cassandra Petersen’s character Elvira in 1988.
