Although it looks like it was shot in the heart of Central Australia, Icehouse’s music video for their most popular track – ‘Great Southern Land’ – was actually filmed in a disused quarry in the Sydney suburb of Wahroonga. Solarised clips and shots of a campfire at night help capture the sense of isolation in the lyrics. A second music video was made for the song several years later to tie-in with its use in Young Einstein (1988).
