Cyberthon-IV: EPIC Omnicast (Psymmetry in Psyburbia) was the fourth Cyberthon broadcast event in the Cyberthon series held during the Experimenta festival in 1994. Like the Cyberthon events before it, Cyberthon-IV: EPIC Omnicast was a collaborative, live broadcast featuring artists, performers, DV’s and VJ’s.
This event more than any other Cyberthon broadcast, employed a range of cutting-edge technologies to broaden its reach. Global participation was fostered via emergent online platforms such as a bulletin board system (BBS), C.U-SeeMe videoconferencing and a multicast backbone (M-Bone) or virtual network. In a Melbourne, if not world first, use of these platforms allowed artists to connect and create with their audience while enthusiasm for experimental electronic music and art saw DV’s and VJ’s mixing audio and images simultaneously while also taking audience requests.
Visual Artists: Tekno Mandala (Adem Jaffers), Cyber Dada (Dale Nason and Troy Innocent), Don’t Shoot the Messenger (Steve Middleton and Attillio Gangemi)
Audio Artists: Voodoo Moon (Ollie Olsen and Arthur Arkin), Zen Paradox (Steve Law), Mystic Force (Russel Hancorne), Psyko Disko (Fred Disco), The Visitor (Andrew Till)
Performers: 3RRR radio host on Tranzmission (Kate Bathgate).
Cyberthon IV: EPIC Omnicast is part of the Cyberthon Archive generously donated to ACMI by Adem Jaffers.
