[Cinesound Review 1950-1965]

This film contains excerpts from Cinesound Review, a news broadcast that covered significant social, cultural and political events in Australia. The film features a number of different clips from newsreels between 1950 and 1965.

The first section, titled ‘1950 Melbourne Cup’, shows the horse race at Flemington Racecourse, photographed by Ron Horner. The film includes close-ups of people in the crowd, and commentary of the race as Comic Court wins. This is followed by a section titled ‘Scone Rodeo: Bronchos (sic) on the Bust’, featuring footage of a horse rodeo in Scone, New South Wales.

The third section, titled ‘Fur Flies: Battling Budgerigar K.O.’s Cat’ features a playfight between two pets, a ginger cat and a budgerigar. In the fourth section we see ANZAC Day parades in Melbourne and Sydney, preluded by the title ‘ANZAC: Nation’s Homage’.

The fifth section is titled ‘Skiing: Day and Night Fun at Mt. Buller’, with commentary by David Low. It features children learning how to ski and social activities in the resorts, including bands and dancing. This is followed by an excerpt called ‘Clark Well Ahead’, showing the motorcar race at the 1965 British Grand Prix, won by Jim Clark.

The film ends with a cartoon called ‘Local Boy Makes Good: A Story with a Moral’ and three feature film trailers: ‘The Counterfeit Traitor’ (1962), ‘Pollyanna’ (1960) and ‘Mein Kampf’ (1960).
