Each November since the Sacred Kingfisher was seen again in the Merri Creek environment, a festival has been held at CERES Community Environment Park to celebrate the return of this native bird to the area as part of its seasonal migration. The festival, with the participation of local schools and communities, also celebrates the cleanup and revegetation of the Merri Creek environs, and the work of CERES in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick East.
