Commodore Jim Dickson came from a Naval family and joined the cadets at 13. As a ship navigator off the coast of Vietnam in 1965, he experienced the pressure of being responsible for the welfare of the crew and the ship. He reflects on the turbulence of the era, the bonds that are formed in times of adversity and the terrible waste wrought by war.
