When Joan showed a photo of her new boyfriend to her mother, her mother remarked that he looked a lot like Selby Adams, a British pen friend she wrote to in World War I. Joan served in the Australian Women’s Army Service during World War II and, as a result of that service, was able to re-unite her mother with her pen friend from Britain. An amazing coincidence
