Pardaillan has been entrusted by King Henri III with a letter he must pass on to Henri de Bearn. King Henri is besieged in the city of Chartres and is asking for help. After surviving many ambushes, Pardaillan must also contend with a fanatical monk who is plotting against the king. This is the second installment of the adventures of Pardaillan.
