In 1935, near Bethune (northern France), Aline marries Pierre instead of the man who had been chosen for her. After their honeymoon, Aline replaces her mother running a small cafe while Pierre works on fairs and markets. Largely inspired by the real story of his parents, Rene Feret’s film chronicles the ups and downs of a working class couple from the 1930’s to the 1960’s.
