Between 1908 and 1918, Pierre-Jakez Helias spent his childhood in Bigouden country (French Brittany). The First World War brings about many changes in the traditional life of a village where pride is more abundant than riches. The central theme of the film is the perpetuation of Brittany’s culture (and language) via oral, rather than written tradition.
