Skippy had stiff competition for the title of Australia’s most beloved (and fictional) marsupial when Blinky Bill debuted in 1993. Based on Dorothy Wall’s books, the animated series incorporated environmental messages into its storylines and saw film and video game spin-offs. The analysis of Australian politics got satirical with Frontline, as local TV began to stretch the possibilities of what it could do creatively. While Home & Away was finding mainstream success, teenage soap Heartbreak High premiered in 1994 and tackled heady subjects for the time including racism, homelessness, drug addiction and sexuality. Crucially, it also introduced the phrase “rack off” into the pop-cultural lexicon.

We dare you not to smile at the sight of these small sofas, teensy televisions and itty-bitty bookshelves. Lawyer by day, model maker by night, Emily’s been crafting miniature TV rooms – complete with little working television sets.
