Neighbours, everybody needs good neighbours. But it didn’t start out that way, with the now iconic Australian soap first debuting to low ratings on Channel 7 in 1985. Following its cancellation, Channel 10 snapped up the rights and took a more a youthful approach with new cast members Jason Donovan, Guy Pearce and Kylie Minogue. Neighbours creator Reg Watson had another hit with Sons and Daughters, which was modelled off prime-time soaps in the US. One of Australia’s first reality programs, Perfect Match, also debuted in 1984, featuring dating-show robot Dexter who mathematically matched contestants with a compatibility score.
We dare you not to smile at the sight of these small sofas, teensy televisions and itty-bitty bookshelves. Lawyer by day, model maker by night, Emily’s been crafting miniature TV rooms – complete with little working television sets.
