The 60s might have been the first full decade of Australian television, but there was a surprising lack of it on the small screen as the local industry began to establish itself. In lieu of the necessary infrastructure, shows from the US dominated due to the low-cost of syndication. This all changed with requirements that commercial TV stations begin broadcasting forty per cent Australian content, which led to the first homegrown drama Consider Your Verdict in 1961. The one-hour program ran for 160 episodes on Channel 7 and ushered in a wave of other seminal Aussie shows like Four Corners and Skippy The Bush Kangaroo.
