Anamorphic illusions like these hide their true subjects in distorted perspectives. When you view them with a viewing cylinder they reveal recognisable images, and some are even made to unveil their images when you look from the right vantage point. Anamorphic drawings helped establish perspective in paintings, photography and special effects, and they also influenced the development of CinemaScope and widescreen in film.
