TV50 was a landmark exhibition that celebrated the past, present and future of television in Australia.

TV50 is a landmark exhibition that celebrates the past, present and future of television in Australia.

The year that the Olympics came to Melbourne was also the year that TV arrived in the lives of Australians. And what a fifty year journey it's been. We've seen ourselves in Kylie Mole and Kath and Kim, and tuned in for everything from Hey Hey to Hey Dad.

We've celebrated at Scott and Charlene's Neighbours wedding, and cried when Molly died on A Country Practice. We've discovered stars on Young Talent Time and Australian Idol. Personalities like Grahame Kennedy, Bert Newton, Molly Meldrum and even Louie the Fly have become Aussie icons.

Through moments like Norman Gunston's coverage of the Whitlam dismissal and sporting triumphs at the Olympics and Commonwealth Games, TV has reflected our history and shaped our national identity. From the flickering box in the corner to cable and the digital 'set-top box', the technology of television is always changing.

Packed with hundreds of classic clips and rare objects, plus an awesome wall of 750 televisions and weekly talks with industry stars and insiders, TV50 will take you on a nostalgic journey into your lounge room memories and look to the interactive, online and mobile TV of the future.
