Urban legend and traditional Japanese folklore collide in this visionary and spine-chilling horror masterwork.

When Reiko’s niece is found dead, her face contorted in a horrific scream, the journalist begins to uncover a slew of similar deaths, which leads her to a shocking phenomenon, a cursed videotape, which upon viewing, will ensure their death in seven days. After unwittingly watching the tape, Reiko finds herself racing against the clock to solve the mystery, leading her straight into the heart of a creepy urban legend about a dark-haired girl named Sadako.

Based on a novel by Kôji Suzuki and adapted in many forms over the years, including TV, Manga, video games and international remakes, director Hideo Nakata’s interpretation remains as the defining example of the J-Horror boom.
