As a family mourns the loss of their son and brother Jérémy in a high school shooting incident, a quietly efficient coroner begins her inquest.
As a high school shooting unfolds, the parents of Jérémy Tremblay (Zakary Auclair) rush to the school. In the aftermath, waiting for information, it gradually becomes clear that their teenage son has died and when the news is eventually delivered, there's more – he was also the gunman. During a chaotic mourning period, his mother begins to investigate how this could have happened and what caused him to act out.
Destined to be compared to We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011), Dark Soul moves in different directions, asking us to embark on a journey to discover Jérémy's secrets. Leading us on this journey is the gently capable coroner and psychiatrist Éliane Sirois (played perfectly and awkwardly by Sophie Cadieux) whose quiet (almost silent) determination is overlooked by her colleagues but not the viewer.
The first 2 episodes (45 mins each) will screen in this program. The remaining episodes are coming soon to SBS in 2022.
