Join us in the cinema to launch the 110th issue of Senses of Cinema with a work from Argentinian film collaborative and industry outsiders, El Pampero Cine.
An Argentine film crew is preparing to embark on an international co-production with their French and German counterparts arriving imminently. But they don’t want to make a feminist film about a Swedish writer, they want to make a film about a 19th Century Argentinian Radical. What’s more, they don’t actually want to make that film either – they want to search for lost treasure.
Taking inspiration from literary works by Edgar Allen Poe and Robert Louis Stevenson and propelling the narrative forward with a modest odyssey, El Pampero Cine has fashioned a film with a free spirit at its heart. However, under the surface and occasionally boiling over are targeted and sharp criticisms of the international filmmaking landscape.
The Gold Bug premiered at the Buenos Aires Film Festival before making its international premiere at the Locarno Film Festival.
This special screening will be introduced by Senses of Cinema editors César Albarrán-Torres and Fiona Villella who will give us a sneak peek at the issue and the special dossier on El Pampero Cine featured within.
