Everybody in Our Family

A father's best intentions to go on a beach holiday with his daughter lead to an increasingly volatile situation when his ex-partner's family resist.

Despite missing his daughter's birthday party – his ex-wife did not invite him – all is still not lost for Marius (Serban Pavlu). The court has granted him two-weeks per year with his daughter, and he has planned a beach holiday for himself and five-year-old Sofia. However, when he arrives at his estranged ex-wife's apartment to collect her, things do not go as planned.

Curator's Note

Five years before Everybody in Our Family premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, Radu Jude and regular cast member Serban Pavlu collaborated on the short film Alexandra (screening as part of Romanian New Wave Shorts). With Everybody in Our Family, themes in the short film are expanded upon and the trajectory of the film feels decidedly and wildly unrestrained.

The film offers an unexpected ride for audiences, but one best begun with our Romanian New Wave Shorts session scheduled immediately before at 1.30pm.
