Master provocateur Radu Jude creates his most outlandish film to date which took home the Golden Bear award at Berlin.

Schoolteacher Emi (Katia Pascariu) finds her reputation under threat after her sex tape is uploaded onto the internet without her awareness. Forced to meet the parents demanding her dismissal, Emi refuses to surrender.

Curator's Note

At first glance, Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn seems to be radically different from Radu Jude's earlier films, and in some ways it is. However, it does a remarkable job of tying together three very different strands of the director's career into one creative braid – his most Jude-esque film to date.

Told in three parts, the director leans into his earlier new wave works in part one, his more avant-garde documentaries and essay films in the second, and the stylistically outlandish and creatively brazen works in the film's final part.

It is a shocking film in more ways than one – you should be warned the film has extended sequences of graphic sex – but it is the film's final part that will leave you speechless as you leave the cinema, or perhaps the opposite, with mouths agape, overflowing with questions.

Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival where it won the Golden Bear award for best film.
