A community theatre becomes an unexpected space of healing for a family facing on- and off-stage tragedy.
Following a family tragedy, Dan's family is in crisis. His talented but volatile daughter has behavioural issues needing immediate care and the communication channels with his wife have shut down.
After retreating to a small amateur theatre group, Dan finds an immediate comfort and community. Secretly and reluctantly becoming a member, Dan is soon cast in an unlikely lead role.
Curator's Note
Connection is key for Kelly O'Sullivan and Alex Thompson's funny and thoughtful indie drama which carves out a path for a family in crisis to reconnect after a tragic incident. Fittingly starring a real-life acting family – Keith Kupferer, Tara Mallen and Katherine Mallen Kupferer – the connection of the actors in front of the camera aligns to the co-directors' personal relationship behind the camera.
Perhaps aided by these personal connections, Ghostlight gifts the audience a thoroughly emotional journey that is hopefully as healing for audiences as it is for the characters onscreen.
Ghostlight premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
