6–8pm

Discover the latest trends and future directions in the Australian screen industry and beyond, through the eyes of its leading women.

The Australian screen community has long acknowledged the issue of gender imbalance in leadership, and the impact that has on innovation, storytelling and film-making culture.

Join this urgent and insightful panel discussion to hear from three industry leaders as they share insights on current trends and future directions. Anna Kaplan, Bridgette Graham and Sian Mitchell will discuss a range of crucial issues through the lens of female and non-binary empowerment: new technologies and business models, environmentally sensitive practices in production and the role played by film festivals. Moderated by Sasha Close (President of the Natalie Miller Fellowship), the group will consider what shifts in these areas might do to create a more robust screen industry for everyone.

Anna, Bridgette and Sian are each recipients of the Natalie Miller Fellowship, and Sasha was the 2016 recipient before being announced as President in 2023. The Natalie Miller Fellowship was established to recognise and nurture the next generation of female leaders in the Australian screen community.

Applications for the 2024 Natalie Miller Fellowship are open early August and close end of September. Visit the Natalie Miller Fellowship website for more details.
