Juliette Binoche reunites with director Michael Haneke in his measured thriller following a bourgeois family.
Anne and Georges Laurent are feeling uneasy after receiving mysterious videotapes.
The tapes show hours of footage of the outside of their Paris home. It could be a prank, a fan's obsession (since Georges hosts a literary talk show), or something more dangerous.
As they start to worry about being watched, a long-buried secret from their past begins to surface, threatening their lives even more.
Curator's Note
Described as Michael Haneke's most Hitchcockian film, Hidden (or Caché as is known in most countries) has an uneasy setup that would make the king of suspense proud. However, beyond that, the film is too cool to fully delve into the genre, refusing to bombard the audience with Hitchcock's arsenal of genre tropes. Instead the audience are kept distant, almost watching the thrills unfold from the sidelines and allowing viewers to fully take the film in, observing a bourgeois family under duress.
The highly anticipated film premiered at the 58th Cannes Film Festival where Michael Haneke received the award for Best Director.
