About Diwali / Deepavali

Diwali or Deepavali is often referred to as the festival of lights by those who practise Hinduism, Jainism and Sikhism.

It’s symbolic of the "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance".

Deepavali is the etymological Sanskrit term, meaning a “row of lights” and is often used to refer to the Festival in South India and by Tamil-language speakers in Sri Lanka.

In Australia, families often gather together to share food, light lamps in their homes and ignite sparklers to celebrate.
